Hunt’s 42 Limitless Gravel wheels offer a ton of width (25mm inner rim width) to take full advantage of your wide tires. That’s good news for gravel racers who will tackle different course conditions throughout the season. What else do they have going for them?

The Hunt 42 Limitless Gravel wheels are designed for rugged racecourses like Unbound Gravel in the Flint Hills. These rims are so wide they could almost pass as mountain bike rims, yet they’re light enough to make them feasible for gravel bikes. The wide, 25mm inner rim width means you can run a wide variety of tire sizes, lending more versatility to your gravel setup.
The 42mm rim depth is designed for aerodynamic performance. But it’s not so deep that you’ll have to contend with too much buffeting in the wind, according to Hunt. You can read more about the aerodynamic wind tunnel testing Hunt did by visiting the Hunt website.
Our test wheels came with the CeramicSpeed bearing upgrade, which bumps the price tag up to $1,829. You can opt for the EZO steel bearings instead and save yourself nearly $500 (the price on the EZO-equipped wheels is $1,379).
There are plenty of other nice touches that may not be as noticeable as the rim’s width and depth. The Elliptical Wing Airfoil spokes, for example, feature a unique shape that combine aerodynamic performance with the durability you’ll need to thrash the world’s toughest gravel.
You can run the 42 Limitless gravel wheels with or without tubes. Note that the rims are hooked, so be sure to consider that when choosing your tire setup.
At 1,548 grams, these certainly aren’t the lightest wheels you can bolt onto your gravel race rig. But that added weight also adds quite a lot of durability and versatility, according to Hunt.
I have been riding these wheels for quite some time and would love to write up a fully independent review for you. So be sure to head over to the YouTube channel and give the Hunt 42 Limitless Gravel wheels video a thumb’s up!
