The Tour de France 2023 starts in just a few days. Veteran journalists Andrew Hood (Velo European Correspondent) and Neal Rogers (Former VeloNews Editor in Chief) join host Dan Cavallari on the Slow Guy on the Fast Ride podcast to reveal the big storylines of the Tour de France 2023. Who are the true GC contenders? What about the green jersey? Can Mark Cavendish beat Eddy Merckx’s record this year?
The Grand Depart in Bilbao, Spain puts GC contenders in the hot seat early, with climbing stages front-loaded into the first week. Hoody and Neal break down what those stages mean for the race, and what riders can expect by the third week.
While the GC battle is likely to come down to the two expected heavyweights, Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard, the return of former Tour de France champion Egan Bernal adds to the excitement. He’s not likely to contend for the overall, but Hoody and Neal think the Colombian will have stage-hunting on his mind.
And what about the Netflix effect? The Tour de France documentary has undoubtedly grown some new fans of the sport. Does the Tour’s 2023 route make for dramatic television? There’s no doubt new fans will have much to cheer for as the Tour de France gets underway in Bilbao.
