Lex Albrecht has a cool motorcycle. If you’ve ever seen her race bicycles, you might think that’s about the least interesting thing about her — the climbing specialist has spent the last decade in the women’s peloton. She spent the last three seasons with Team Tibco-SVB, and when the road goes up, so does Albrecht, in a hurry.
But a few months ago, I bought a new motorcycle. It’s a 2015 Triumph Tiger 800 XCx. And once it was parked in my garage, I immediately began the process of nerding out over accessories.
That’s how I stumbled upon a photo of Albrecht. She was riding a motorcycle in the photo. And her moto had an accessory on it that I just had to have.
Albrecht’s bicycle-friendly moto
One look at Albrecht’s ride says it all. She lives her life on two wheels — but sometimes she needs to transport four wheels. The 2×2 Cycles bike rack allows her to do that. It was this rack that inspired me to reach out to her to find out where she got it and how it works.
Lex has been using it for years to transport her bike to group rides and trailheads. The rack mounts to the back of her motorcycle, and she says it’s super stable. Sure, it can catch in the biggest winds, but for the most part it all but disappears behind her.
It’s quite a sight. Any passers-by are all but guaranteed to stop and take a look. That’s important; it gives a broader audience a sense that there’s a real, convenient, and utilitarian life beyond the car. But for Lex, it’s just a means to an end;
On this episode of “In The Garage,” Albrecht gives a rundown of the accessories she relies on to make her moto as useful as possible. The 2×2 Cycles bike rack may be the most noticeable, but Albrecht uses other cool components and accessories tailored to her needs. As it turns out, some of those accessories work wonderfully on the bicycle, too.
